Veteran opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye has praised National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine for withdrawing his election petition from the Supreme Court.
On Monday, Bobi Wine announced he was withdrawing his petition from the Supreme Court, citing bias on the side of judges.
Now, Besigye says Bobi Wine’s decision was a wise one.
“The announcement by the Hon Robert Kyagulanyi to withdraw the petition from the Supreme Court was certainly not surprising, considering what has been taking place since he filed that petition,” said Besigye in a media interview held at Kasangati.
“I think in the large measure, it was a good decision to discontinue that petition because the direction it was head for was quite clear.”
Besigye says elections should have taught Ugandans that Uganda is under military rule where power lies with a commander, and thus ‘one-man rule.”
The four-time presidential candidate reminded Ugandans of the first attack on the judiciary in recent times — the Black Mamba raid on the High Court in 2005.
Then the Black Mambas blocked the release of the alleged People’s Redemption Army (PRA) suspects — Besigye’s co-accused — from being released on bail.
