Mbarara grade one magistrate Gordon Muhimbise has granted main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat bail.
Amuriat appeared in the Mbarara court December 04 afternoon following hours of detention at the Mbarara Central Police Station.
He had been blocked from proceeding to Rubirizi District at Omu Nkombe near Kyamuhunga along the Ishaka-Kasese Road.
He was arrested and driven to Mbarara, marking his fourth arrest since his November 03 nomination drama.
Other arrests happened in Gulu City and Kitgum.
At Mbarara CPS, Amuriat refused to record a statement insisting he needed to first consult his lawyers.
He was latter taken to court where he was read charges of disobeying lawful orders.
The charges stem from a December 02 incident in Mbarara where Amuriat dodged police officers’ blockades, jumped on a bodaboda and moved through the city centre instead of proceeding to Kakyeka Stadium for a campaign meeting.
The bodaboda, registration number UEX 650D, that was carrying him knocked Mbarara District Police Commander John Rutaagira.
Rutaagira sustained mild injuries, according to Rwizi Police spokesperson Samson Kasasira.
In court, magistrate Muhimbise granted Amuriat a Shs2m non-cash bail.
His campaign team leader told reporters they would proceed to Ishaka Town for a campaign meeting.
