In his first reshuffle since taking over as police chief, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abbas Byakagaba has made changes in command positions of the Uganda Police Force (UPF) in an attempt to improve efforts to keep law and order.
IGP Byakagaba has appointed a new commander for Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP). Commissioner of Police (CP) Richard Echega is the new KMP commander. Until his latest appointment, CP Echega headed the Private Security Organizations and Small Arms Department of Uganda Police Force.
Echega replaces Senior Commissioner of Police (SCP) Stephen Tanui. Abbas Byakagaba has appointed SCP Tanui deputy director at the Directorate of Fire Prevention and Rescue Services.
Christine Nanding, who has been the Deputy Director of Legal and Human Rights Directorate, will now work at the Professional Standards Unit as commandant.
Nanding will replace Sarah Kibwika who is now the Commissioner in charge of Human Resources Management, heading deployments.
Abbas Byakagaba has also appointed CP James Ruhweza as the deputy director in charge of operations.
CP Denis Namuwoza is now in charge of fire arms department at the Directorate of Fire Prevention and Rescue Services.
The IGP also appointed Sulaiman Kirungi the Commander of Marine Unit and will leave his role as head of police duty free shop.
SCP Elias Kasirabo will leave the Anti-Stock Theft Unit as commander and move to the Directorate of Human Resource Administration as Deputy Director.
Emmanuel Muhairwe will now become the head of administration for police barracks, leaving his role as head of the deployments department in the Directorate of Human Resource Administration.
Gerald Twishime is the new deputy KMP commander, SCP Rogers Sseguya is the new Kampala Metropolitan East commander, Moses Nanok goes to KMP north as commander.
IGP Byakagaba has sent Edgar Nyabongo to the oil and gas unit while Abubaker Ziwedde is now a commissioner in charge of UPF curriculum.
