Uganda Police Force (UPF) has announced a Shs10m reward for anyone with information that can help in the apprehension of Kyambogo University professor and administrator Dr Lawrence Eron over allegations of aggravated defilement.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga says that the Directorate of CID would like to work with any Ugandan with credible information that can assist in the arrest of Dr Lawrence Eron.
Dr Eron, 56, was Dean at the Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation at Kyambogo University. He also served as the Project Administrator for the ‘All we see is possibility’ initiative.
He faces accusations of alleged aggravated defilement of a 16-year-old visually impaired girl.
Form months, Dr Eron has hidden away from police. Enanga says the professor could be hiding in Uganda. He has warned relatives and friends to desist from hiding Eron, but rather report him to face the law.
“A substantial cash reward of Ugx 10m, awaits any member of the public, who avails us information that can lead to his arrest. We believe, the suspect is still hiding within the country, with the help of his closest relative, and friends,” said Enanga.
“We want to warn anyone, who will be found harbouring or aiding his escape, that it is an offence punishable by law. They will be arrested and charged with harbouring or aiding the escape of a wanted suspect.”
Meanwhile, police has alerted Interpol on Eron’s case on top of urging Ugandans to report him to the nearest police station or call 0741-111-333 of CID Headquarters, Kibuli if they see him or know his whereabouts.
“In addition, CID headquarters has processed a warrant of arrest and submitted it to Interpol, to issue a Red Notice against him. The suspect is wanted for a straight forward case of Aggravated Defilement,” added Enanga.
“All wanted persons in Uganda should know that there is no hiding place that is out of reach. We, therefore, urge the suspect to turn in and defend himself. A wanted poster is available on the police website and various social media platforms. We will never stop pursing the suspect. We will find him and bring him to justice.”
