Hussein Kyanjo, a former Makindye West Member of Parliament, who also previously led the Jeema Party, has passed on this Saturday, July 22 morning in Kampala.
Kyanjo was pronounced dead at Kibuli Hospital where he was receiving treatment.
The former legislator succumbed to a disease he has grappled with for about a decade.
Kyanjo was a strong critic of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and government.
Kyanjo was aged 63.
Hussein Kyanjo was diagnosed with dystonia, a condition that affected the speech of the once vocal politician, in 2011.
He blamed the health condition on poisoning. But he was unable to figure out the place where he could have been poisoned.
Claims of top politicians being poisoned or fearing to be poisoned are not new. A top UPDF general once reveals the fears of being poisoned in Museveni’s cabinet, and high command meetings, while the death of the former speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanyah was attributed to poisoning by some of his relatives and friends. Recently, Dr Kizza Besigye had to fly abroad for medical attention after he feared that he could have been poisoned. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
