As the new academic year for public and private universities, as well as institutes draws closer, it is important for parents and prospective students, especially those joining these education institutions, to know which ones are accredited, which ones have provisional licenses, among other registration statuses.
In Uganda, the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) was established as the regulator of higher education. As part of its mandate to regulate these institutions, NCHE implements the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act of Parliament of 2001.
Some education institutions operate without a clear registration status from NCHE, and some students have previously been left in tears after the qualifications from these institutes were rejected by employers and other higher institutions of repute.
