In a shocking turn of events, Eric Mwesigwa, a hitherto enthusiastic supporter of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP), has denied being tortured by Gen Yoweri Museveni state security agents but blamed his party’s principal for promising him a cool Shs50m to tell lies to tarnish the image of security agencies.
Weeks ago, Mwesigwa appeared in Bobi Wine’s office and displayed his torture marks before press cameras as the NUP president sought to bolster the claims that the Museveni regime has been abducting, illegally detaining and torturing his supporters.
Mwesigwa had alleged that security agencies had burnt him with hot metals. But the UPDF spokesperson rubbished the NUP supporter’s allegations. (See Details Here and There).
Now, Mwesigwa has appeared at the UPDF headquarters in Mbuya and confessed that Bobi Wine had promised to pay him Shs50m to go on camera and claim that security officers had burnt him with hot metals.
Mwesigwa alleged that leaders at NUP, with the blessing of Bobi Wine, convinced him to have them inflict injury and wounds on his body so that he could blame the Museveni government.
As a reward, Mwesigwa further claimed, the party would pay him Shs50m. He went on to claim that NUP leaders have either refused or failed to pay him his money, leaving him with no option but to expose them.
By publication time, NUP was yet to respond to claims in Mwesigwa’s U-turn.
