With just five years on the education scene, St Kana Secondary School, Katooma – Kigoma has continued to cement its top place among the giants of Bushenyi District and Western Uganda, posting enviable results in the 2022 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE).
Ranked number in Bushenyi District, St Kana SS Katooma – Kigoma had 42 per cent of its 48 candidates passing in Division One (first grade). Some 21 candidates were in the Division Two (second grade). What this means is that 85 per cent – or nearly nine in every 10 candidates – of the candidates at the school passed in Division One and Division Two combined.
Besides being ranked among the top five schools in Bushenyi District, St Kana SS Katooma – Kigoma is steadily becoming a hub for the teaching and learning of science subjects.
To understand how good the school is at sciences, let us take a look at their performance in Chemistry. Out of the 48 candidates, 13 scored distinctions in this vital subject – seven D1s and six D2s. Up to 33 candidates scored credits: 12 C3s, 11 C4s, nine C5s and One C6. Only two candidates scored passes.
Mr Tom Arinanye, the Senior Chemistry Teacher behind this performance, expressed joy at the performance. “I want to thank our students and my fellow teachers for their efforts,” said an elated Arinanye. “At St Kana, the teaching of sciences has been enabled by our skilled staff and a well-equipped laboratory. Our school prioritizes science subjects and teachers make sure the scientific concepts are clearly understood.”
On his part, School Director Mr Naboth Kajungu said: “We thank God who has enabled us to continue to perform well in national examinations. I want to assure our dear parents and students that we shall continue to do our best to ensure that St Kana SS has a conducive environment to help learners excel in all subjects.”
Mr Kajungu also reminded students, parents and guardians that there are still some vacancies left in Senior One and Senior Five. He asked those interested in vacancies at the top performing school to contact administrators on 0789561022, 0754020729, or 0787010205.
