National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has reacted on court rulings favouring Mityana District Woman MP Jocyce Bagala, and his brother Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu.
On June 24, the Court of Appeal ruled that Bagala was validly elected as Mityana District Woman MP.
In the January 14 parliamentary election, Bagala defeated Judith Nabakooba as district woman MP.
But Nabakooba, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, run to court seeking orders for the nullification of Bagala’s victory.
Last year, Mubende High Court’s Justice Emmanuel Baguma nullified Bagala’s election and ordered a fresh election.
But Bagala appealed the ruling in the Court of Appeal, which ruled in her favor. (Read Story Here).
Court of Appeal also ordered that the High Court to conduct a retrial of a petition filed by Nyanzi challenging the election of Muhammad Nsereko as Kampala Central MP.
The High Court had dismissed Nyanzi’s petition on grounds that Bobi Wine’s brother had failed to serve Nsereko.
Nyanzi appealed the High Court ruling, and now Court of Appeal has ruled in his favor.
The retrial, which will be presided over another judge, is expected to be significant given the small margin in the number of votes garnered by both candidates.
While both rulings are being seen by supporters of both Bagala and Nyanzi as victories, principal Bobi Wine has described the judgements as ‘small victories’ which don’t deserve being celebrated.
“Don’t be so quick to celebrate when they give you the small victories, they are the ones that stole your big victory in the first place. They are not independent! Be woke,” said Bobi Wine.
