Matia Kasaija, the minister of finance, planning and economic development, has told Ugandans that there is nothing he can do about the skyrocketing prices of commodities.
In recent weeks, the prices of basic commodities such as food and soap have shot up, prompting opposition politicians and other Ugandans to task government to come up with a plan to ensure that the prices return to normal.
But Minister Kasaija has told Ugandans to stop blaming him for the prices, saying the rise was beyond him.
“I am not the one who increases prices; I also see them increasing,” Kasaija said during the Harvest Money Expo at Kololo in Kampala.
“I have never increased fuel prices. What should I do?”
