Robert Kyagulanyi’s National Unity Platform (NUP) says Harriet Nakwedde Kafeero, its candidate in December 16 Kayunga LCV byelection, is the poll winner.
The race was tight between Nakweede and Andrew Muwonge of the ruling National Resistance (NRM).
According to Bobi Wine’s NUP, results tallied by the party’s polling agents show that Nakwedde won.
“The final results from all polling stations in the Kayunga LC5 by-elections as tallied by our polling agents,” said NUP in a statement.
“Our candidate, Nakwedde Harriet Kafeero, has won with 35212 votes. Salutations to our team for safe guarding our victory. Congratulations comrade Nakwedde on your victory.”
Party leader Bobi Wine claimed massive rigging.
“Our agents are reporting massive fraud at the Tally Centre. From our independent tally of 335 out of 338 duly signed original DR Forms, we are leading with a difference of 15,000 votes. They’re adding their candidate hundreds of votes at several polling stations!” he said.
“Some of our agents who have tried to protest have been pushed out of the Tally Centre. Be woke!”
The Electoral Commission (EC) was expected to announce official results soon.
“The results from polling stations have been received, read out and entered into the tally system. The Returning Officer will be addressing us shortly and make a final declaration,” the commission said at about 6am on December 17.
