Presidency minister Milly Babirye Babalanda has claimed that CID detectives have recovered Shs600m from interdicted Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) officials.
Uganda Police’s Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) on August 24 evening arrested and detained Prof Tom Davis Wasswa, the Managing Director of Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC).
The development follows Presidency Minister Milly Babalanda’s directive for a temporary suspension on the activities of the board of Governors and the corporation’s top management, led by Prof Wasswa.
The move, the minister said was intended to pave way for smooth investigations over reported fraud, financial mismanagement.
Now, Babalanda has now said Shs600m of the Shs3bn the officials had stolen has been recovered.
“Detectives at CID headquarters have recovered Shs600m, part of the Shs3bn corrupt proceeds from Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC),” said Babalanda.
“The decision to interdict top managers of UPPC to pave way for investigations was correct. We shall get to the root of the problems.”
