2022 UACE RESULTS: Over 30000 Fail to Qualify for University Admission

A little over 30,000 candidates who sat the 2022 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations do not qualify for admission to any public or private university after failing to get the required number of principal passes.

For one to gain admission to university, one needs to have a minimum of two principal passes. But 30,074 candidates of the 97,889 who sat the 2022 end of A-level exams failed to get the two principal passes and are, therefore, not eligible for admission to universities.

But on the good side, a little over 70 per cent of the candidates qualify to join universities, according to figures released by Dan Odongo, the Executive Secretary and Director of Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb).

“At the minimum two Principal level required for University admission, 67,815 (70.3%) qualify compared to 69.8% in 2020. In terms of numbers, this is slightly less than that of 2020, which was 68,013 candidates (69.8%), but this is consistent with the fact that there was a slight drop in entries for the examination in 2022,” said Odongo.

Nearly 90 per cent of the candidates also qualify for admission to other tertiary institutions where one principal pass and two subsidiary passes are the requirements.

“In cases where one Principal and two Subsidiary passes levels are considered for admission to other tertiary institutions, 89.3% of the candidates will qualify,” the Uneb Executive Director further explained.

Meanwhile, Uneb has withheld some results of 2022 UACE candidates over cheating. (Read Story Here).

Uneb boss Odongo has also narrated how some candidates who scored zero per cent in some subjects gave very shocking answers, with one of them telling examiners that s/he is the stone the builders refused and that the examiners should not waste their time marking her/him. (Read Details Here).
